Okay on Monday will be the last day in January.  How are your New Year goals going?  Well,  for me some are going well and some not so good.  If you have been following this blog you have noticed the I stopped posting 2 weeks into the new year.  My excuse — life got busy.  Is that a good excuse?  Yes and no.  Yes,  because I had to make time to focus on my day job at GM and my family.  NO because I could have starting picking up writing quicker than today.  So lesson learned — if you fail, recover  as quick as you can.  Learn your lesson and work on recovering everyday.  Some failures can take years to recover from depending on what it was.

How are you doing on your goals for 2011?  Have you given up on some of them or all of them?  If they are truly some aspect of your life you want to change then regroup, refocus and pick up and start again.  Don’t give up and let our busy schedules take control.

Let’s look at my first blog post of the new year and score my results for this month.

Take a one month assessment on your 2011 goal progress

Here is what I wrote main 3 goals for 2011:

Fill my auditorium to 500 people: Aka, get 500 Mad Dog Leadership blog followers.  Well I think I have 2 right now.  But hey I have taken a 2 week blog break in the middle of January so what do I expect right?
As I mentioned above I was going strong until work and family took my blog time I had carved out each day.  This will happen sometimes – the important part is not to quit completely.  I am going to work hard to make up my missed blog posts and finish the 31 days to a better leader by the end of February.

Become 50 pounds now 100 Pounds lighter: As I stated on this goal I changing my diet prior to January 1, 2011.  I have moved away from processed foods and artificial sweeteners to natural and organic diet.   Along with my diet I am also doing high intensity workouts to increase Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) (article link on askmen.com) Because if my efforts I am down 37 pounds from my high  back in August 2010. This is one goal I am close to achieving and why I am increasing my goal from 50 to 100 pounds of weight to lose.

Mentor 10 people: On this one, I need to do more work.  I have talked to  2 people this month about there career.   So I am on my way. I am looking for longer term mentoring relationships.  Not just a 30 min meeting.  More like 300- 1 hour meetings of the course of the year.  So I need to develop this a little more.

Don’t Give Up

Don’t give up on your goals for 2011 if you haven’t started it is never to late.  If you need help email me larry [at] maddogleadership [dot] com.  I will listen and encourage you in your goals for 2011.   Tell your friends of your goals they will help keep you accountable and ask you how are you doing.  This will challenge you to reach or move the needle, because next time you see them you want to let them know you are making progress.

Keep up the good work and as always keep improving every day and raise the bar.
